Musicians as Businesses: CMI's Artist Entrepreneur program helps musicians build sustainable careers

Published December 17th, 2015

Recently, TD Music introduced you to Canada’s Music Incubator (CMI), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping artists grow as entrepreneurs. In today’s music industry climate, it’s crucial that artists grow as both performers and businesses, which can be a challenge.

CMI, founded by Toronto’s Coalition Music, offers a number of programs created to help. Their Artist Entrepreneur (AE) program provides professional development designed to assist artists in building profitable businesses and sustainable careers. Since its inception in 2012, the Artist Entrepreneur program has mentored over 200 diverse, emerging musicians from across Canada.

Watch the video above to see artists who’ve gone through the AE program describe their own relationships with music, and what it takes to build a career in the industry. The 10-week program, which also includes unlimited ongoing mentorship, runs twice annually. The next session begins February 2, 2016.
