Robi Botos: Movin’ Forward
Published May 20th 2015
Hungarian-born, Toronto-based Robi Botos is one of Canada’s most respected young jazz pianists. The enormously talented musician began playing at the age of 7 and, soon after his move to Canada in 1998, became a protégé of celebrated jazz great Oscar Peterson. Ever since, Robi has developed an original style that blends bebop, hard bop and modern funky grooves with the traditions of Eastern European folk music. He’s got swing and style!
On March 26, with the support of the TD Discovery Series Special Projects initiative created by Toronto Downtown Jazz, Robi Botos launched his sophomore album Movin’ Forward at Jazz Bistro. Joining him that night were “some of the best musicians on the planet,” drummer Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts, bassist Robert Hurst, and saxophonist Seamus Blake.
