Now in its 11th year of supporting live music in Canada, TD Bank is pleased to encourage the creation and performance of music in communities from coast-to-coast. TD also believes in supporting artists at varied stages in their careers.

This commitment was on display Saturday June 21st when, as part of the opening celebrations for TD’s new branch in the West Edmonton Mall, the TD music café highlighted eight talented Edmonton acts. From 10am to 7pm that day, the stage was transformed into a one of a kind social space within the mall as TD’s pop-up event offered free live performances, refreshing summer sodas, and areas in which to relax.

The spotlight shone brightly on gifted young Edmonton artists as more than 2500 audience members enjoyed their diverse live sounds throughout the day. Audiences cheered loudly for these rising homegrown musicians. This enthusiasm was well warranted.

Talia Perez charmed with her soulful voice and melodies while 18-year-old modern country performer Olivia Wik shared songs beyond her years. Similarly, singer-songwriter and folk musician Braden Gates sang straight from the heart.

Rising festival favourite Alex Vissia showcased sultry folk-alt originals, and expressed gratitude for the TD music café experience. “Edmonton and its local musicians can use all of the support we can get so to have TD drawing attention to artists is just so appreciated,” said Vissia. “As an independent musician, you do everything yourself, including promotion. It’s a huge help to have an organization that is willing to get behind us, and spread word about you to their customers as well."

Other TD music café performers shared similar sentiments, including soulful 19-year-old roots and pop music performer Lucas Chaisson.

“It’s just very nice to have a company that’s so actively interested in supporting the arts in Canada,” enthused Chaisson, who also echoed his appreciation for the opportunities offered.

“I think the TD music café is exciting because it’s a pop-up venue, and you’re playing for people who wouldn’t normally come see your shows.”

All of the day’s performers were given a warm welcome by vibrant radio personality Liann Cameron of Edmonton’s 91.7 CHBN, alternately known as The Bounce FM. Cameron repeatedly declared her admiration for the talent featured, also including alt-country singer-songwriter Kayla Patrick, upbeat pop-rock foursome Six Day March, and heavy indie rock quartet Ten Minute Detour.
